Module in AI Marketing Manager

See what AI answers when your customers ask

You decide which questions matter to the business. AI Monitor puts them to the AI engines on a regular schedule, takes every answer apart and shows who is cited as a source, who is mentioned, and whether you are moving up or down.

AI Monitor is the module in CitationLab AI Marketing Manager that measures how visible your brand is in AI answers. It runs the questions your customers ask against ChatGPT, Gemini, Claude, Perplexity, Google AI Overview, Google AI Mode and Bing, and shows which sources are cited, which brands are mentioned and how that changes over time. AI Monitor used to be a separate product and is now a module in Manager.

01The problem

The buying journey starts in an AI answer you never see

More and more people ask an AI assistant before they search, and many never reach a results page. They get an answer, a short list of recommendations and a handful of sources, and decide right there. Whether you were in that answer is something Search Console and GA4 can't tell you.

Checking by hand tells you little. You ask ChatGPT a question, see your name, and assume all is well. Next time the model answers differently, Gemini names a competitor, and Google's AI answer cites a comparison page you've never heard of.

AI Monitor makes it measurable. The same questions run again and again against the same engines, and the answers are counted instead of read one at a time. That's how you see the pattern, not just the snapshot.

02How it works

How it works

  1. 01 / 04

    You define the questions

Write the questions the way a real customer would ask them, or let Manager suggest them from your personas and product groups. Group them into topics and tag them by buying stage, so you see whether you show up early in research or only when the customer is choosing.

  2. 02 / 04

The engines are asked on a schedule

Each question runs against the engines you pick, using live retrieval rather than model memory. You see what customers are actually served today.

  3. 03 / 04

    Every answer is taken apart

Cited sources, brands named in the text, the follow-up questions the model searched for, and how you and your competitors are described are each stored on their own. That's what makes everything trendable rather than merely readable.

  4. 04 / 04

You follow the trend and get told

Visibility, citation share and mention share are tracked per engine, topic and persona. Lose a citation you had and you get an alert, and the figures become KPIs that Lab Brain keeps an eye on.

03Inside

What you get

  • The sources AI relies on

Which domains and which exact pages are cited in the answers, broken down by topic, prompt, engine and day. Your own cited pages appear as AI landing pages, with conversions from GA4 where it is connected.

  • Competitors you didn't know about

The brands the AI engines name, merged with the competitor list you maintain. Players you hadn't considered often turn up. Your own brand is never counted as a competitor.

  • Topic map with share per topic

Every question grouped into the topics your market actually asks about, each with its visibility, citations and mentions. You see at a glance where you lead and where a competitor has taken the answer.

  • Fan-out map

One question becomes many: the map shows the follow-up questions the models ask themselves before answering, and the search results behind them. Those are the questions behind the question that your content should answer.

  • Alerts when you lose a citation

If your domain was cited, or your brand mentioned, the last time a question ran and isn't now, the project is told in the app, and by email when you're not signed in. You can also switch on an alert for new citations.

  • AI bots and AI traffic

See which AI crawlers visit your site and which visits come from AI surfaces, so the value of being cited can be measured rather than assumed.

04The outcome

What it changes day to day

  • You know where you stand in AI answers for the questions that bring in customers, not just for your own name
  • You see which sources AI trusts in your industry, and can work to become one of them
  • Lost visibility is caught when it happens, not in next quarter's report
  • The content plan is built on the questions the models actually ask, not on guesswork
  • AI visibility lives in the same project as traffic, conversions and actions, so the link between them can be measured

05FAQ

Questions about AI Monitor

Which AI engines does AI Monitor track?
ChatGPT, Gemini, Claude and Perplexity, plus Google AI Overview, Google AI Mode and Bing. Answers are retrieved live, so you see what customers get today, not what a model remembers from its training.
What's the difference between being cited and being mentioned?
Cited means the AI used your site as a source and linked to it. Mentioned means your brand appears in the answer text itself. You can be mentioned without being cited, and the other way round. A citation is worth the most, because it is what sends traffic.
Does the AI give the same answer every time?
No. Models vary from run to run, and their sources are updated. That's why AI Monitor measures shares across many runs instead of treating a single answer as fact.
Does it work for questions in languages other than English?
Yes, on every engine except Google AI Mode, which currently only answers in English. For questions in other languages it is skipped, and it costs you nothing.
I used AI Monitor at monitor.citationlab.ai. What now?
AI Monitor has been upgraded into a module of Manager, and monitor.citationlab.ai is retired. Existing customers are invited to move their account with projects, prompts and history, and the subscription carries on unchanged.
