Get startedConsent management in CitationLab
Give visitors clear choices. Connect those choices to your tags, Google consent signals and consent records, in one module inside AI Marketing Manager.
Free check. Preview without email. Works with your current consent platform.
Your choice comes first
Choose whether to allow optional cookies for analytics and marketing. You can change your settings at any time.
Cite Consent by CitationLab.aiAn illustration of the choices. This example does not change your actual cookie settings.
01The module
Cite Consent is the consent management module in CitationLab AI Marketing Manager. It connects the banner visitors see with the categories, vendors, rules and Google consent signals behind it.
A banner can look right while a plugin or tag behaves differently. Managing consent means bringing the wording, the visitor's choice and the technical setup together. Cite Consent gives your team controls for that setup and a way to investigate what happens in the browser.
Use it alongside Google Tag Manager, or connect it to Cite Tagger in Manager. Your existing analytics and advertising tools still need to follow the purposes and rules you configure.
02Features
The controls your team needs to configure, inspect and maintain consent.
Appearance and language
Choose your wording, colours, placement, logo and languages. Optional Forced decision, off by default, blocks interaction with the page behind the banner until visitors accept, reject or save preferences. Rejecting also unlocks the page, and privacy information remains available before a choice.
Categories and vendors
Define categories and explain the vendors behind them. Keep strictly necessary functions separate from optional preferences, analytics and marketing. Visitors can return to their settings and change their choice.
Signals and tag behaviour
Map your categories to Google's consent signals. Set defaults before Google tags run and update the signals when the visitor makes a choice. Your tag configuration determines what may run.
Country and region rules
Configure the consent policy by country or region. Support the opt-in, opt-out or notice flow appropriate to your setup, with text that explains the visitor's choices.
Consent log and export
Look up consent records and export the log to CSV. Records include the decision, categories, time and the policy or configuration version, so you can follow up a specific choice.
Cookie scan and consent check
Review cookies and tracking observed on a page, including behaviour before a choice and after rejection. Use findings to investigate your configuration and check again after changes.
03Setup
Start with the banner and rules, then test the complete installation.
Open Cite Consent in Manager. Set the banner, categories, vendors and the policy that fits your visitors.
Use the script supplied in Manager before your tracking code, or enable Cite Consent in the CitationLab WordPress plugin.
Map consent to Google tags and configure other providers. Keep Google Tag Manager, or manage tags alongside consent with Cite Tagger.
Test a fresh visit, rejection, selected purposes and withdrawal. Review the findings, adjust the setup and repeat after new tags or website changes.
Banner and visitor choices
Cite ConsentConsent configuration
Cite Tagger or Google Tag ManagerObserved behaviour
Test, review and adjustInstall consent before tracking code. Configuration and loading order matter: a banner cannot undo a request that has already been sent. The consent check helps you see where to investigate.
04Google consent signals
Cite Consent maps your categories to Google's consent signals. These four signals separate analytics storage, advertising storage and advertising data use.
Read Google's documentation| Signal | Purpose |
|---|---|
analytics_storage | Storage used for analytics, such as analytics cookies. |
ad_storage | Storage used for advertising, such as advertising cookies. |
ad_user_data | Sending user data to Google for advertising purposes. |
ad_personalization | Using data for personalised advertising. |
Basic mode holds Google tags until consent. Advanced mode can send measurements without cookies while consent is denied. Check your chosen configuration and other vendors separately.
05Try your existing setup
Enter a public website address. See a free preview, then use a work email if you want the full report with suggested fixes. You can test a site that uses another consent platform.
Step 1 of 2
The check covers one public page and the behaviour observed during the test. Other pages, regions and server activity can differ. Read about the check and its scope
06FAQ
Cite Consent is the consent management module in CitationLab AI Marketing Manager. It brings together the website banner, consent categories, vendor information, region rules, Google Consent Mode v2 settings and consent records. You can also check a page's observed cookies and tracking.
Yes. Cite Consent can work alongside Google Tag Manager. Install the consent script before tracking code and configure your tags to respect the relevant choices. Cite Tagger is another option inside Manager if you want to manage tags and consent together.
No. Cite Consent provides the banner and manages the visitor's choices. Google Consent Mode communicates those choices to Google tags and changes their behaviour. It does not collect consent by itself, and other tracking providers need their own configuration.
Yes. Visitors can reopen the consent settings and change their choices. Keep a visible cookie settings link on your website, then test how your configured tags respond when a visitor withdraws a previously granted purpose.
Yes. The module supports your own banner wording, colours, placement and logo, language versions and rules by country or region. You supply and review the language versions and choose the policy that applies to your setup. You can also enable Forced decision, which is off by default. It blocks interaction with the page behind the banner until visitors accept, reject or save preferences. Rejecting also unlocks the page. Privacy information remains available before a choice.
Create a project in Manager, configure Cite Consent and use the installation snippet shown in the module. It needs to load before your tracking code. WordPress sites can enable it through the CitationLab plugin. Test the installed setup before relying on it.
Yes. The free consent check accepts a public website address. You do not need to install Cite Consent or replace your existing banner to use it. The check looks at the behaviour visible during the browser test.
Yes. Test one public URL and see a preview without providing an email address. A work email unlocks the full report with findings and suggested fixes, and a copy is sent to your inbox. This free check is separate from access to the Cite Consent module in Manager.
The check covers one public URL and the browser behaviour observed during that test, including cookies, tracking, consent choices and Google consent signals. Other pages, regions, interactions, login areas and information forwarded on a server may behave differently. It does not certify legal compliance.
A CMP helps implement the choices and rules you configure. Your purposes, information for visitors, tag setup and wider data processing still need to be assessed. Use the technical findings to improve the implementation and review the requirements that apply to your business.
