A guide to the core concepts behind CitationLab AI Monitor — how onboarding works, the funnel phases we track, and how to structure your prompts.
Onboarding
Getting set up takes four steps.
- 1
Create a project
Add your brand and the domains you want to monitor.
- 2
Build a business profile
Describe what you do so the AI understands your context.
- 3
Generate personas
Define the buyers whose questions you want to appear in.
- 4
Generate prompts
Auto-create prompts across the funnel, then refine them.
Funnel phases
We track three stages of the customer journey.
Top of funnel
Early-stage awareness — broad, exploratory questions without brand context.
Middle of funnel
Solution evaluation and comparison queries as buyers weigh options.
Bottom of funnel
Purchase-ready, brand-specific searches close to a decision.
Prompt scopes
Each prompt is classified by how specific it is.
General
Broad industry questions without specific context or brand mention.
Contextual
Service-related queries with context but without your brand name.
Brand
Explicit searches that name your brand directly.
Best-practice distribution
Aim for roughly 30% General, 40% Contextual and 30% Brand prompts, covering all funnel stages and connected to your personas. Review daily tracking and act on the monthly recommendations.
