Frequently asked questions

AEO is the practice of optimizing your content so that AI assistants (such as ChatGPT and Claude), voice search and answer engines use your brand as the source when they give users a direct answer. Where classic SEO competes for a ranked link, AEO structures your knowledge so an AI can lift a clear, authoritative answer straight from your content — and name you while doing it.

GEO is optimization aimed specifically at generative AI search engines (such as Perplexity and Google's AI Overviews) that build an answer on the fly by combining several sources. GEO is about giving your brand enough citation value, credibility and semantic relevance to be selected as one of those sources when the answer is generated.

SEO optimizes for Google's ranked blue links. AEO optimizes for answer engines that give one direct answer (ChatGPT, voice). GEO optimizes for generative search that synthesizes several sources in real time. LLMO focuses on how the language models themselves recall your brand from training. They overlap and reinforce each other, but each needs a distinct tactic — which is why we treat them as one connected strategy rather than four separate projects.

No — but its role is changing. Traditional SEO is still a critical foundation, because AI models lean on the same authority signals, structured data and crawlable content to judge who to trust. Going forward you combine technical and content SEO with deliberate AEO/GEO so you capture both classic web traffic and AI recommendations, instead of betting everything on one channel.

AI models recommend entities (brands) they understand and trust. You influence this by strengthening your digital footprint across the web: technical structuring (Schema.org), digital PR, building authority through credible third-party sources (citations), and positioning yourself semantically correctly in your niche. It is systematic work — not a switch you flip — and it starts by measuring what the models say today.

It depends on the platform. Real-time engines like Perplexity and Google AI Overviews can reflect changes within weeks of publishing well-structured, authoritative content. Parametric models like ChatGPT need longer — often 3-6 months — to build enough entity understanding and authority to embed you in how they answer. We measure both tracks so you can see progress before the slower one lands.

Entity Authority is how well AI models understand and trust your brand as an authority in your field. The higher it is, the more often models recommend you. It is built through consistent, structured information across credible sources — a clear presence on your own site, plus corroboration from third parties the models already trust.

Share of Model measures how often your brand is recommended by AI models compared with your competitors — the AI-search equivalent of 'Share of Voice'. If 100 buyers ask ChatGPT for the best option in your category and you appear in 18 answers, your Share of Model is 18%. The AI Monitor module in CitationLab AI Marketing Manager tracks it over time.

AI Marketing Manager is our marketing platform: 80+ modules for AI visibility, SEO, content, campaigns and analytics, where every finding becomes an action that is tracked and measured. Its AI Monitor module runs the prompts your customers actually use across ChatGPT, Gemini, Claude, Perplexity, Google AI Overview/AI Mode and Bing, and tracks your mentions, citations, sentiment and Share of Model over time — so AI visibility stops being a guess and becomes a number you can move.

On 1 October 2026 AI Monitor was upgraded into AI Marketing Manager, where it lives on as a module. You are invited to move your account, with projects, prompts and history, into Manager. Your subscription continues unchanged, and you sign in at manager.citationlab.ai.

Every package runs your prompts against the AI models (including ChatGPT, Gemini, Claude and Perplexity) weekly, and you can add daily runs as an add-on — so you always have a current picture of how your brand is being mentioned rather than a snapshot from last quarter.

Yes. The AI Monitor module in Manager lets you add and track your most important competitors, see their Share of Model next to your own, and — crucially — see which sources (citations) the models use to recommend them over you. That turns competitor benchmarking into a concrete list of places to earn presence.

The tool supports multiple languages and is especially tuned for Nordic languages and English. We test visibility across languages so you get a complete picture of both your local and your global position — which often differ more than companies expect.

Yes. Beyond monitoring, the AI Monitor module shows which sources the models rely on when they discuss your industry. That gives you a concrete roadmap of the websites, PR channels and media outlets to target to strengthen your AI recommendations — and our team turns that roadmap into an ongoing optimization plan.

There is no paid placement in AI search itself — visibility is earned through authority, structure and content, not media spend. What you invest in is strategy, monitoring and execution. We offer everything from an AI Marketing Manager package to full-service optimization, so the cost scales with your ambition and company size. See the current packages on our pricing page, or book a no-obligation talk.

Pick a partner that can measure AI visibility (not just claim it), that is transparent about method, and that has demonstrable presence in AI answers itself. We keep an honest, up-to-date roundup of AEO providers in Norway so you can compare — including where we fit and where we don't.

ABC stands for Acquisition, Behavior and Conversion. It is the commercial layer of the Citation Method — CitationLab's methodology for AI visibility — and it covers the whole chain from visibility to value: where customers come from (A), what they do on your website (B), and whether they actually buy or get in touch (C). AI visibility that never converts is a vanity metric; ABC keeps it tied to revenue.

Yes. Despite the rise of AI, traditional SEO and Google Ads are still massive drivers of Acquisition. We integrate them into the bigger picture and make sure that spend also builds the authority AEO and GEO depend on — so the same work pays off in two channels at once.

Changes tied to Behavior and Conversion (CRO) often deliver results immediately after implementation. They are usually the best quick wins because you get more value from the traffic you already have — without spending an extra krone on advertising.

No — and that's deliberate. We position ourselves as growth strategists and advisors: we set the strategy, monitor the data through AI Marketing Manager, and give you the answers. The hands-on execution is typically done by your in-house team or external partners, with us steering. For agencies, we also offer a partner model.

Absolutely not. Whether you are a startup or an established corporation, data-driven management, CRO and clear KPIs are essential. We adapt the tools and scope to your company's size and growth phase — and smaller companies often move fastest because there is less to untangle.

Yes, always. We research your company, competitors and industry in advance, and run live AEO searches on your specific brand during the talk. That keeps the content concrete and relevant instead of theoretical — people see what AI actually says about them, live.

Yes. We offer free talks for business associations and business organizations across Norway. AI search and the future of marketing is a highly relevant topic, and all we need from you is a room and an engaged audience.

We are building a comprehensive program for optimizing visibility in AI search, planned to launch during the year. Get in touch to be put on the interest list and you'll be first to know.

We offer both half-day and full-day workshops. A half-day (approx. 3-4 hours) focuses on status, analysis and quick wins; a full day gives us time to develop strategy and train internal resources in more depth.

Less than it used to be. With modern frameworks, AI-assisted coding and serverless architecture we can build launch-ready (MVP) products in weeks rather than months. The value returned in saved license costs or added efficiency often means the solution pays for itself quickly.

You do. You own the code and all IP for what we build specifically for you — you are never locked in to us, though we are happy to handle ongoing maintenance and hosting if you'd like.

Yes — and we build them to be found by AI. We focus on complex sites, portals and web apps with real functionality (login, databases, API integrations, calculators), and on AI-ready websites structured so answer engines can read and cite them. If you just need a digital business card, we'll point you to simpler options.

Absolutely. We can connect APIs from OpenAI (ChatGPT), Anthropic (Claude) or other models into your existing CRM, customer-service platforms or databases — so the AI works inside the tools your team already uses.
