Your AI visibility

Recommended — or passed over?

You know how your website looks. But do you know how AI sees your business? Ask the question your customers ask and see who ChatGPT, Gemini and Google AI recommend.

  1. Your website
  2. The question

Next step

What do you want to find out?

Ask AI the same question your customers ask. You get the answer, and who it recommends, here and by email.

Write it the way a customer would ask ChatGPT, ideally with industry and location.

01About the AI visibility check

What does an AI visibility check tell you?

CitationLab C with a radar and magenta dots

The check gives you a first view of how AI describes your business in response to a relevant customer question. See which brands appear and which sources are cited. Use it to identify questions worth investigating further.

02Three forms of visibility

Three forms of visibility

Being mentioned, cited and recommended are different. Read the answer before drawing a conclusion.

Mentioned
Your business name appears in the answer. The mention may be positive, negative or part of a list.
Cited
The answer links to a page as a source. A link to your website does not necessarily mean your business is recommended.
Recommended
AI suggests your business or product as a relevant choice for the situation the customer describes.

03Common misinterpretations

Common misinterpretations

One answer is a useful starting point. It cannot describe your whole market.

One question becomes the whole picture
Answers vary with needs, location and wording. Test questions from different stages of the customer journey.
The brand is included in the question
Asking about your business directly is different from testing whether AI chooses it unprompted. Keep these questions separate.
A mention is treated as a recommendation
Read the context. AI may list you as an alternative or describe limitations without recommending you.

04What to do with the result

What to do with the result

Turn an initial finding into questions and actions you can follow over time.

  1. Choose important customer questions

Start with the needs and buying situations that matter most to your business.

  2. Read answers and sources

Record who is chosen, what AI says about you and whether the information is accurate.

  3. Prioritise improvements

Correct missing or inaccurate information and make services, products and facts clear.

  4. Repeat and compare

Follow the same questions over time. Separate isolated answers from recurring patterns.

06A snapshot, not a guarantee

A snapshot, not a guarantee

The result applies to the questions and answers shown in your report. AI answers can change and different services can disagree. The check does not measure market share, future traffic or sales. One good result does not guarantee recommendations in other buying situations.
