CitationLab for Slack

Ask Cita about your marketing projects right where your team already talks. Mention @CitationLab in a channel linked to a project — rankings, traffic, AI visibility, ad spend, open actions — and Cita answers in the thread with tables and charts, using exactly the access your own CitationLab account has.

What the app does

  • 01

    Answers in the thread

Ask in plain language. Cita replies with a short brief, tables for numbers and a chart for developments over time, in the language you ask in.

  • 02

    Your access, nothing more

Cita answers as the CitationLab user you linked yourself to, and only about the projects linked to that channel.

  • 03

    Changes need a person

When the answer is that something should change, Cita posts the proposal with Approve and Reject. Someone with edit access decides.

  • 04

Reads the thread you ask in

Mention Cita halfway down a discussion or under an alert, and she reads that thread up to your question before she answers.

  • 05

Follows a channel, if you want

Let Cita follow a channel and she can answer about what was said there lately. Off until someone with edit access switches it on; messages are kept for 7 days.

  • 06

    Alerts, actions and reports

Send a project's alerts, actions and scheduled reports (with the PDF) to the channels you choose.

Before you start

  • A CitationLab account

The app works with AI Marketing Manager. Everything Cita knows comes from your projects there.

  • The right role to connect

An owner, admin or manager of your organization connects the Slack workspace — once, for every project in the organization.

  • Edit access to link a channel

Linking a channel to a project, and letting Cita follow it, needs edit access to that project.

1. Connect your Slack workspace

The connection is made from Manager, so it belongs to your organization.

  1. 1

Open Settings → Slack in Manager

Sign in to AI Marketing Manager and open Settings → Slack (the button above takes you there).

  2. 2

    Choose “Connect Slack workspace”

Slack opens and shows what the app asks for. Pick the workspace and choose Allow.

  3. 3

    Back in Manager

The workspace appears under Workspaces as Connected. Every project in your organization can now use it.

2. Link channels to projects

A channel answers for the projects linked to it — never for another project, even one you can open.

  1. 1

    Open the Channels tab

In Settings → Slack, choose “Link channel”, then pick the workspace, the channel and the project.

  2. 2

    Private channels

Invite the app first: type /invite @CitationLab in the channel. Public channels are joined for you.

  3. 3

    Shared channels

In a channel shared with another company (Slack Connect), someone with edit access confirms that the project may be discussed there.

Settings → Slack → Channels: one row per channel and project.

3. Ask Cita

Mention the app, or use the slash command.

  1. 1

    Mention @CitationLab

Write your question in a linked channel and mention @CitationLab — or type /cita followed by the question. Cita reacts with 👀 straight away.

  2. 2

Link your Slack user the first time

Cita sends you a link only you can see. Open it signed in to CitationLab and choose Link. From then on she answers you with your account's access.

  3. 3

    Follow up in the thread

Ask follow-up questions in the same thread. With several projects in one channel, name the project, or Cita asks with a button per project.

Changes always wait for a person

Cita never changes anything straight from Slack. A proposed change is posted with Approve and Reject; anyone in the thread with edit access to the project decides. The same change waits in Agents → Approvals in Manager, and deciding in one place settles it in both. An approved change is recorded as a done action in the project.

4. Let Cita follow a channel (optional)

By default Cita reads only what she is mentioned in, and the thread she is mentioned in. To let her answer about what the team said in a channel — “what did we decide about the campaign yesterday?” — switch following on for that channel.

  1. 1

    Choose “Let Cita follow”

In Settings → Slack → Channels, open the row's actions and choose Let Cita follow. It needs edit access to the linked project.

  2. 2

    The channel is told

Cita posts a note in the channel saying who switched it on. Messages from before that moment are not read.

  3. 3

    Stop at any time

Choose Stop following, or remove the link. The messages kept from the channel are deleted at once; otherwise they are deleted after 7 days.

Data and privacy

  • When you mention Cita in a thread, she reads that thread to understand the question. What she reads is used for that answer and is not stored.
  • Cita keeps her own part of the threads she answers in — the questions put to her and her answers — for 30 days, so follow-up questions work.
  • For a channel your team lets Cita follow, its messages are kept for 7 days. Edits in Slack update a kept message; deletions remove it. Direct messages are never kept.
  • Removing the app from Slack, or disconnecting it in Manager, ends every follow and deletes the kept channel messages.
  • No Slack data is used to train AI models. Data from one organization is never used for another.

Each answer uses credits like a Cita message in Manager.
