It all started just over a year ago, when founder Krister Ross began exploring a simple yet important question: Why do some brands appear more prominently than others in AI search?

What began with a few experiments and prompts here and there quickly evolved. First came an Excel spreadsheet to keep track, then a custom system, followed by mapping data sources — and eventually custom scripts and a programmed prompt monitor.

This laid the foundation for what is now CitationLab – a tool developed to understand, measure, and improve how brands appear in AI-generated responses.

Since the first prototype, CitationLab has undergone a complete restructuring and been further developed through an incubator program where both strategy, messaging, and functionality have been refined.

Today, CitationLab is still a growing AI startup, but with increasing interest from both professional communities and partners. Our user base is growing day by day, and our earliest users play an invaluable role by providing feedback that directly influences how the platform continues to evolve.

We are also proud to have partnered with several agency partners, and will continue to expand the partner program so that more can contribute to – and benefit from – what CitationLab creates.
